70 Ionia is the first Class A office space to be built in downtown Grand Rapids in 15 years. This 40,000-square-foot building is the site of the former Milner Hotel.
The innovative design of 70 Ionia features a glass sculpture on the front of the building which may be illuminated at night, adding a new landmark to the Arena District.
Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan
Size: 33,500 sq. ft.
Function: Mixed-use Building
Date Completed: 1999
Originally constructed in 1875, the building at 40 Monroe Center has undergone a major and long-overdue historic restoration. Particular care was taken to preserve the historical essence of the building. The original arched window casings and baseboards have been restored and painted. The joists, detailing the high ceilings and support columns, are exposed. The third floor has been converted into 12 loft-style apartments, while the first and second floors contain a mixture of office and retail space. Rockford Companies is pleased to announce the listing of the Peck Block, 34-50 Monroe Center, Grand Rapids, Michigan in the National Register of Historic Places.
This project involved the complete renovation of a one-half city block of buildings in downtown Grand Rapids’ Renaissance Zone, making way for 10 condominiums. The condos will occupy the second and third floors of seven buildings on the south side of Monroe Center, between Ionia and Division Avenues, with retail on the ground floors. Each unit has a view of Monroe Center.
