Grand River Endoscopy Center

Location:  Grand Rapids, Michigan

Size:  9,385 sq. ft.

Function:  Medical Office and Specialty Treatment Facility

Date Completed:  2006

This project required major renovation of a former chemotherapy center within an occupied medical office building (MOB). A great deal of scheduling and outreach was required by Rockford in order to minimize the impact of the project on other MOB tenants. Overall coordination of the trades was also necessary as the project took place within an occupied medical environment.

Rockford’s extensive healthcare experience ensured the successful completion of the procedure rooms, pre- and post-examination stations, and common areas such as the waiting room. Rockford added a generator system, which was located in an enclosed cooling area, and had conduits that needed to be routed under the existing paved drive and into the building and new electrical panels. Rockford was able to restore and reuse a number of etched glass panels to help maintain the artistic integrity of the existing structure.

St. Mary’s Wege Center and the Physicians Office Building were part of a campus expansion project that began in 1998.

The Physicians Office Building houses an organ transplant clinic, pain clinic, gastrology center, oncology, cardiac testing and rehabilitation center. The lower level includes two linear accelerators and The Breast Center. A complex tunnel system was built beneath a city street, connecting the new facility to the existing hospital.
